7 Elements to Becoming a Successful Integrated System

McKinsey 7S Framework

Strategy - To agree and clarify vision and goals that align with WY ambitions and know how you will measure what you set out to achieve.

Structure - Design and adapt the infrastructure with exploration of ‘team of teams’ (networked matrix working) that supports agile working across complex adaptive systems. Define the governance architecture and information and decision-making flows.

Systems - Discover how we work together (e.g. communicate and escalate). Identify decision-making roles and responsibilities. Set thresholds for team of teams and networked model. Support connectivity across the system.

Shared values - Explore the ICB’s mission, values, and behaviours and what these mean to you. Gain coaching skills to embed in day-to-day practice and be clear on accountability.

Style - Conduct self and team assessment using the Behaviours Framework (email: wakccg.sldteam@nhs.net for a copy) to understand areas of strength and development. Conduct, share and reflect on preferred leadership style and team profile. Explore vertical distributed leadership within organisations and opportunities for improvement.

Staff - To develop as a high performing function made up of individuals, enabling a culture of belonging and diverse voice, building trust and productivity.

Skills - Develop behaviours set out in the competencies framework i.e. system leadership. Reflect on preferred leadership style.

Fellowship

In 2020 the Partnership commissioned an independent review to address the inequity that exist for colleagues and communities that experience racial marginalisation. The report being partly in response to the health inequalities that were highlighted through the Covid -19 pandemic resulting from structural and systemic racism. The review and recommendations link to the 10 Big Ambitions of the partnership, specifically having leadership that is representative of our communities and the commitment to reducing health inequalities. The Fellowship developed as a result with the value being co-created by the West Yorkshire Race Equality Network (REN) and built upon good practice, complementing existing local and regional programmes to support the progression and representation of racially marginalised colleagues in our next generation of leaders.

Two cohorts have been delivered to date. Cohort 1 being completed with 73 % of participants having secured a promotion or roles that enables their career aspirations following participation in the programme. Cohort 2 still being in delivery.
