Carers Rights Day

Carers Rights Day is organised every year by Carers UK, and their aim it to raise awareness of the lack of recognition, social exclusion, limited opportunities and isolation of carers, and the impact this has on their mental and physical wellbeing.

The Unpaid Carers Programme at West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership works with local partners to share learning spread the work and adopt good practice across the area.

This year our local partners in Bradford District and Craven; Calderdale, Harrogate, Leeds, Kirklees, and Wakefield are holding a series of activities and events to celebrate the role of carers whilst ensuring they know about the help and support available in their local area.

A  number of activities have been organised for Carers Rights Day on Friday 30th November 2018.

This is just a snap shot on some of the activities taking place.

In Calderdale and Kirklees, session will take place between 10.30-14.30 at Brain Jackson House, Huddersfield. This session will cover carers rights and support they are entitled to with representatives from Ridley & Hall Solicitors available to give free advice.

In Bradford and Harrogate, two Carers Rights Day events will be held with Q&A sessions available between 10.30 – 12.30, with a further event will also take place in Skipton.

In Wakefield, the Carers Rights Day event will start at 9.30 and finish at 14.30, with presentations on universal credit, dementia, Citizens Advice Bureau and carers digital resources. This will take place at Unity Works, Westgate, Wakefield.

In Leeds, for Carers Rights Day a 5-day helpline will be made available to enable carers are able to call at time to discuss information, advice and support. A ‘Carers Speak Up’ event is also scheduled to take place at St Georges, Leeds.
