What else has been happening this week?

Dr James Kent visits West Yorkshire and Harrogate

Dr James Kent visited West Yorkshire and Harrogate and met with colleagues from across the area, including Rob Webster our CEO Partnership Lead and Ian Holmes, Partnership Director.  James was appointed special adviser on health to Theresa May in January 2017 and was keen to find out more about the work taking place across our Partnership. This included looking at joined up areas of community care with mental health support, housing and the important role of voluntary organisations.

Partnership Memorandum of Understanding

The final draft of the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership Memorandum of Understanding has been shared with health care leaders to seek approval from their Boards and Governing Bodies over the coming weeks. We have agreed to develop this Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen our joint working arrangements and to support the next stage of development of our Partnership. It builds on our existing collaborative work to establish more robust mutual accountability and break down barriers between our separate organisations. You can read it here.

NHS Confederation visit

Rob Webster, CEO for our Partnership; Ian Holmes, Partnership Director and colleagues from the core team met with Niall Dickson, Chief Executive, NHS Confederation, Nick Ville, Director of Membership and Policy and their new Regional Engagement Manager (North East and Yorkshire), Kerry McQuade on Wednesday. It was a good opportunity to talk about how we can work together moving forward. The NHS Confederation is currently in the early stages of setting up seven regional networks, whose primary audience will be health care partnerships and integrated care systems, like ours.

The intention is that the networks – currently North East and Yorkshire, North West, Midlands, East, South East, South West and London will focus on the integration agenda and provide an independent forum to share best practice, and discuss the challenges and opportunities of establishing an integrated care system.

West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership Public Health Co-ordination Group

The Public Health Coordination Group met on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Ian Cameron, Director for Public Health at Leeds City Council. There was a conversation around tracking the progress of preventing ill health across the area and an update on population management which put simply is a collection of best practice focused on improving care delivery whilst making it affordable. There was also an update on West Yorkshire and Harrogate work streams, including tobacco and alcohol.
